The waters of the southwest of the island of Tenerife are the ideal place to enjoy whale watching. The boats set sail from Puerto Colón, Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes.

In Tenerife we can find resident populations of bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales, so they can be seen on our coasts throughout the year. Other species are more abundant depending on the season, especially in the months of May and June.

Depending on the time you have, you have excursions that range from two hours long, with the sole purpose of seeing cetaceans, up to 5 hours, which may include a walk through the coastal area, a dip in a cove, food…

Departures can be made from Puerto Colón, Puerto de Los Cristianos o Puerto de Los Gigantes.

Whale watching

Whales are wild animals, so their behavior can be unpredictable. Their behavior depends on many factors (time of day, sea conditions …), which makes each excursion a different experience.

There are national and international laws and regulations that protect pilot whale and dolphin populations. For this reason, it is important to pay attention to all human activities that may affect these animals, including the sighting of cetaceans.
